Triple Shooting in Columbia Heights

Two people are dead after an early morning shooting in Columbia Heights. News4’s Darcy Spencer has more on what could be a possible motive.

D.C. police are investigating a triple shooting in the Columbia Heights neighborhood of Northwest D.C.

The shooting happened just before 6 a.m., at the 1400 block of Parkwood Place.

D.C. Fire and EMS tweeted on Saturday that two adults were pronounced dead on arrival, and 1 was transported for medical treatment.

The fatal victims have been identified as Jimmie Lee Simmons III, 32, from the District, and Domonique Barber, 31, also from D.C.  Chief Cathy Lanier said the third victim was transported to the hospital.  He was also believed to be a local resident.

Area resident Annie Jackson said she heard 8 shots ring out, and dropped to the floor.  All three victims were shot in the head.

"It's like we are living in a third world country," Jackson said, "so you have to learn how to protect yourself."

Ward 1 Council Member Jim Graham said that illegal gambling may have been involved in the violence.  He said there had been a craps game being played on the sidewalk where the crime scene was located.

A surveillance camera equipped with a microphone is posted at 14th Street at Parkwook Place.  Police pulled the camera's data for the investigation.
