D.C. to Hold Lottery for Ballot Position

It's not exactly the Kentucky Derby draw, but candidates in the District of Columbia's political horse races are still hoping to land a favorable position.

The D.C. Board of Elections will hold a lottery on Friday to determine the order of names on the ballot. It's the final step toward finalizing the ballot for the November general election.

The candidates for mayor include Democratic nominee Muriel Bowser, independents David Catania and Carol Schwartz, and minor-party candidates Bruce Majors and Faith, who goes by one name. Bowser defeated incumbent Mayor Vincent Gray in the Democratic primary. A non-Democrat has never been elected mayor in Washington.

Voters will also be electing members of the D.C. Council and, for the first time, an attorney general.
