The D.C. Department of Health selected six companies that will soon be eligible to cultivate medical marijuana in the District.
The announcement was made on Friday, after a lengthy selection process reviewed by a six-member panel and input from Advisory Neighborhood Commission members.
All six potential cultivation centers are located in Northeast, and five of the six are in Ward 5. The Department selected: Abatin Wellness Center 1 of Queens Chapel Road; Montana Apothecary dba Alternative Solutions of 24th Place; District Growers (1) of Evarts Street; Holistic Remedies (1) of Fenwick Streett; Phyto Management, LLC of Benning Road; Venture Forth dba Center City of Channing Street. “The selected applicants went through a rigorous process and I am confident that these applicants are capable of ensuring patient and public safety, as they have met all the criteria defined in the program regulations,” said Dr. Mohammad Akhter, Director of the D.C. Department of Health.
Potential distributors must now apply for additional licenses and permits before the growing process can begin. Distributors are expected to be selected in June.
