Critics Protest Metro's Plan to Search Bags

Demonstrators urge riders to refuse searches

Demonstrators gathered at Metro stations in the District Wednesday afternoon to protest security changes.

Many people are angry about Metro's new policy of random bag searches. It's not in response to any specific threat, but it's trying to deter terrorist attacks.

The searches are intrusive, according to critics. They're urging riders to refuse to participate if they're randomly selected.

The group "Flex Your Rights" has put together what it calls a citizen's guide to refusing Metro searches on its Web site.  You can find that guide and download it here:  http://www.flexyourrights.org/subway.
