Crash, Vehicle Fire Causes Major Delays on I-66 in Fairfax

Raw video shows a car on fire in a multiple vehicle crash on Interstate 66 in Fairfax County.

Traffic came to a standstill on eastbound Interstate 66 in Fairfax County, Virginia, during the Thursday evening rush due to a multi-car crash and vehicle fire.

Drivers going eastbound on I-66 swerved to avoid a crash involving two vehicles near Exit 60. But when they moved over, 12 vehicles got into a chain reaction crash, Virginia State Police said.

Video showed flames engulfing the last two vehicles in the chain reaction crash. The fire has been extinguished.

Police said one person had a minor injury and medics treated them at the scene.

All lanes were back open by about 9 p.m.

Traffic was backed up for at least about 2 miles on eastbound I-66 as crews worked to extinguish the fire, and there were also significant delays on westbound I-66 in the area.
