RIVERDALE, Md. -- A MARC train bumped one bus into another Thursday afternoon, injuring eight people, according to Prince George's County Fire and EMS spokesman Mark Brady.
At about 4:30 p.m., an eastbound Metrobus trying to cross the tracks across Queensberry Road at the Riverdale MARC station was delayed by a westbound Metrobus turning left, according to Metro. The crossing gate lowered on the rear of the eastbound bus, preventing it from moving. A MARC train then struck the rear of the first bus, pushing it into the second bus.
"It's unfortunate we've had eight injuries as a result of this incident, however it's also fortunate we've only had eight injuries," Prince George's County Fire and EMS spokesman Mark Brady said.
No passengers were riding the first bus, according to Metro. The driver was taken to an area hospital.
Minor injuries to seven of the 12 passengers on the second bus were reported. Some people were taken to area hospitals, but mostly for bumps and bruises, sources said.
No one on the train was injured. It was carrying about 400 passengers.
All of MARC's Camden Line service was suspended but resumed before 6 p.m. Commuters can expect severe delays.
