WASHINGTON -- A Cleveland Park resident was upset to learn Monday that his neighborhood's convenient Magruder's Market is going away this weekend.
A flier with his groceries alerted the resident to the change. An employee confirmed that Saturday will be the market's last day of business.
Cashier Muhammed Teshale cited expensive rent as one of the economic factors squeezing the business out of the neighborhood.
Magruder's website calls theirs the only locally owned supermarket chain in D.C. The Cleveland Park location was convenient for senior citizens, allowed all residents to walk to shopping and had a deli that was a popular stop for takeout dinner.
Magruder's also has locations in Gaithersburg, Rockville, Kemp Mill, Vienna, Falls Church, Alexandria and Chevy Chase.
