Two adults and a child suffered serious injuries when a driver jumped a curb into a downtown D.C. restaurant patio.
The driver of an S-Class Mercedes Benz reportedly knocked down a tree and struck tables on the patio of Central Michel Richard at 1001 Pennsylvania Ave. NW just after 6 p.m. Tuesday.
"I heard a very loud crash which I thought was a gentleman knocking over a huge tub of ice, but it turned out to, unfortunately, be a car hitting the building," Chris Bellotti, who was having dinner at the time of the incident, told News4.
A child and two adults, including the driver, were taken to a local hospital in critical condition, News4's Shomari Stone reported.
A fourth adult suffered minor injuries in the accident. The circumstances of the accident remain under investigation. The Mercedes' air bags deployed.
"Everyone started to rise up, and you could smell smoke inside the building," said Bellotti.
There was no structural damage to the building.
