It was a terrifying scene captured on a business' security camera: a scooter zooming down Woodmont Avenue in Bethesda, Maryland, when a car makes a left turn and slams into the rider.
"It was definitely a scary sight to see," Colleen Woodside, who found the video on her computer, said.
The accident happened Tuesday morning before 9 a.m., when the driver in the video tried to make a left turn into a private parking garage but struck the electric scooter rider. That victim survived the accident and was taken to a hospital, but the scene shocked Woodside, who was with her coworkers when she arrived at work and saw the police and fire trucks at the intersection.
Montgomery County police said the driver of the car was cited for failing to yield the right of way, but she said she didn't see the scooter.
Now, the accident is prompting police to remind drivers and scooter riders to share the road.
Montgomery County Police Capt. Thomas Didone said that this victim was lucky she wasn't killed, and urged riders to wear helmets and stay on the right lane of the road.
