A car struck a horse-drawn buggy yesterday, killing the driver and leaving the horse with minor injuries. NBC4’s Cory Smith has more on the hit and run, which has investigators searching for the car driver.
A 65-year-old man riding a horse-drawn buggy in St. Mary’s County, Maryland, died Wednesday morning when the driver of pickup truck struck him, authorities said.
Henry Brubacher Stauffer, of Loveville, was thrown from his buggy when a 2000 Chevrolet Silverado crossed over the yellow line on Point Lookout Road near Loveville Road, slamming into the buggy, the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office said. The pickup driver ran off.
Police arrived about 7:30 a.m. and Stauffer was pronounced dead at the scene.
The horse was not injured, the sheriff's office said.

Deputies are still searching for the pickup driver and believe the person might have been under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
