Boy, 4, Killed by Falling Tree in Richmond

Police say a 4-year-old boy was killed when an uprooted tree fell on him and his father at a Richmond park Thursday afternoon.

The father was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Their names have not been released.

The tree fell behind Maymont Park's nature center, as the park was being evacuated, WWBT reports.

Strong winds uprooted trees and knocked down power lines through a wide swath of the state. There were scattered reports of property damage from trees and limbs falling on houses and vehicles.

Dominion Virginia Power reported about 95,000 customers remained without service Friday morning. Most were in the Richmond and southeasten Virginia regions.
