Boy, 15, Fatally Shot on Porch in Northeast DC

Victim unconscious and not breathing

NBC Universal, Inc. D.C. police identified the teenage victim from Thursday’s fatal shooting on a porch just yards from a school. News4’s Jackie Bensen reports.

A 15-year-old boy was shot and killed on a porch in Northeast D.C. Thursday afternoon, police said.

A gold sedan drove up in the 500 block of 48th Place NE about 3:30 p.m. Three people got out of the sedan and approached the victim, police said. Several rounds were fired at the porch where the victim was standing.

The boy, 15-year-old Andre Robertson Jr., was unconscious and not breathing when he was airlifted from Kelly Miller Middle School to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

The school was locked down for a time.

The shooting took place near a bus stop as children were being dropped off, police said. A witness described hearing the students yell "run" as shots rang out.

"We would hope that every place would be considered a safe haven, none more so than in and around schools," Washington Teachers’ Union President Jacqueline Pogue Lyons said in a statement. "In this case, so many kids were put in danger at the time of the shooting, creating a horrendous scenario. Gun violence has now robbed one more person of a full and productive life.”

Sixth District Cmdr. Darnel Robinson said the shooting appears to be targeted but police are still trying to confirm that.

Police found the sedan burned in Prince George's County, Maryland, but the suspects have not been located.

Police originally said the victim was 13 years old.
