Fire Destroys Barn in Gaithersburg

A barn on fire created a huge plume of smoke Tuesday night near Great Seneca Stream Valley Park in Montgomery County.

A barn filled with hay burned on the 7300 block of Damascus Road in Gaithersburg about 7:15 p.m. and was expected to smolder overnight, a Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said. A fire crew will remain on site overnight to prevent the spread of fire.

The fire that destroyed the barn and caused more than $250,000 damage was believed to be accidental. No people or livestock were injured.

Water trucks were being used in lieu of water from hydrants.

Damascus Road was closed between Annapolis Rock Road and Laytonsville Road (Route 108) but later reopened.
