Man Charged in Deaths of Mother, Son Found Shot Inside Home

Investigators believe the shooting deaths of a mother and her adult son were drug-related, but the mother was not the intended target.

Brian Welsh, 38, was arrested Tuesday afternoon and charged with the deaths of Mala Manwani, 65, and her son, 32-year-old Rishi Manwani, the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office said.

Deputies were called to the 25000 block of Tomey Court Jan. 31 after one of Mala Manwani's co-workers at CSRA — where she was an accountant — reported that no one had heard from her that week.

When deputies checked her home, they found Mala Manwani and Rishi Manwani dead in different parts of the home. Both had been shot more than once.

Investigators believe Brian Welsh and Rishi Manwani were involved in drug activity inside the home. They don't believe Mala Manwani was an intended target.

Welsh has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder. He is being held at the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center.
