The lights are back after thousands of Northwest D.C. residents went to bed without power for up to 12 hours on a hot and humid Saturday.
The lights went out about 2:45 p.m. for Pepco customers in an area stretching from Woodley Park to Shaw. At the peak of the outage, about 39,000 customers were affected, Pepco said.
About 5,400 customers didn't have power around 11 p.m. Pepco on Sunday morning said that all power had been restored by 2:48 a.m.
A show at the Lincoln Theater was cancelled, Busboys and Poets on 14th and V Streets was closed and a nearby organic market posted a sign saying, "Sorry!" as many businesses had to shutter their doors on what would normally be a busy Saturday night.
Power was restored at MedStar Washington Hospital Center, a spokesperson for the hospital said just after 6 p.m.
Howard University Hospital is still operating on emergency backup power and the hospital is diverting ambulances due to the outage.
D.C. Fire responded to several reports of stalled elevators.

Pepco says critical equipment was damaged at the Florida Avenue substation, causing the outage. The utility says crews worked around the clock to make repairs.
Metro says it is not affected at this time and trains are operating on a normal weekend schedule.
