One suspect is still at-large after a family was robbed and a man shot outside a home in Silver Spring, Maryland, Wednesday morning.
A man saw two men robbing his 77-year-old mother and 53-year-old sister in the driveway of their home on New Hampshire Avenue about 1:35 a.m., Montgomery County police said. The man was shot in the leg when he tried to go to their defense, News4's Pat Collins reports.
"Originally, it sounded like about 10 [gunshots] Pop! Pop! Pop! Pop! Pop! Pop! Pop! Pop! Pop! Pop! And then, I was downstairs. I was listening by the door and then I heard a lady scream," said neighbor Vu Adeity.
The women had been coming home from the family's convenience store in D.C. In their purses, they had the store's earnings from the day.
"The suspects knew the victim so this was planned. These victims were targeted and these suspects wanted to make off with that money from that business that they believe those victims had," a spokeswoman for Montgomery County police said.
The suspects sped off in a car before police arrived.
It's not clear what the suspects took from the family.

A short time later, police in Takoma Park spotted that vehicle and alerted authorities in D.C. that the car was heading into the District.
That vehicle eventually crashed on the 400 block of Taylor Street NE, and one suspect was arrested. Police say the other suspect ran in the direction of Catholic University.
As the suspect fled toward Catholic University, the school told students to shelter in place. The shelter-in-place order was lifted about 3:30 a.m.
Police say the second suspect remains at-large.
