A popular brand of energy drink filed a legal complaint against a Virginia distillery over its logo.
Monster Energy claims the “M” in the logo for Mularkey Distillery in Bristow is too similar to Monster’s “M.”
“It’s scary,” Mularkey co-owner Tom Murray said. “All I see is dollar signs.”
Monster Energy has filed complaints against businesses around the world that try to use the letter M as a logo.
“They’re just trying to own M throughout the entire universe,” Murray said.
“They’re just creating a nuisance that is very costly to a small company to defend against,” he said.
A copyright lawyer told News4 he thinks Monster will lose.

“I think someone, for the small guys, needs to step up and tell them to stop,” Murray said, “and for better or for worse, I’m that guy right now”
