Last month, three friends were killed in separate shootings. Police have not determined whether their deaths are linked, but on Tuesday, they announced they made an arrest in one case.
Malique Lewis, 20, of Southeast D.C., is charged with first-degree murder, assault and several additional charges. He is accused in the death of Armani Coles, 27, of Northwest D.C.
Officers were called to Kenilworth Avenue on Dec. 28 and found Coles lying in the street, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Lewis is being held without bail.
Lewis was on probation at the time of the fatal shooting for carrying a firearm without a license in D.C. At the time of his arrest, he was also being sought in connection with a robbery and assault case in December.
D.C. police chief Peter Newsham told The Washington Post that Coles’ shooting could be linked to two other killings that occurred on the same day in the District. Newsham said Coles and the two other victims, Ronzay Green and Kerrice Lewis, were friends.
