An animal shelter in D.C. is pleading with the public to adopt all of its dogs, cats, rabbits and other animals within the next two days as it deals with a major pest problem.
A spokesperson for the Humane Rescue Alliance says the organization's shelter on New York Avenue NE is infested with mites.
Pest control crews must come in to treat the issue and the shelter plans to move out all 160 animals at that location by 5 p.m. Wednesday.
"We’re going to be removing all of the animals and hopefully sending them out to foster care to adoptive homes," said Stephanie Frommer, the senior director of operations for HRA.
HRA is waiving adoption fees for select animals at both of its locations on Tuesday and Wednesday.
