Grace Tamo was trying to learn to swim at her family's new apartment complex

A 14-year-old girl drowned at an apartment complex pool on Father's Day in Silver Spring.

Grace Tamo was an only child. She was trying to learn to swim in the pool at her family's new apartment complex at 2217 Georgian Way, but somehow she ended up in the deep end.

The first emergency call came in at 2:49 p.m. A lifeguard pulled her from the water and performed CPR until Montgomery County Fire and Rescue arrived and took over.

Tamo was rushed to Holy Cross Hospital, where she later died.

Police are treating the case as an apparent drowning, but a final cause of death will wait for the medical examiner's determination.
