13-Year-Old Bicyclist Suffers Life-Threatening Injuries in Maryland Collision

The girl was struck while riding her bike in a crosswalk, police say

A 13-year-old girl is fighting for her life Saturday after being hit by a car on her bicycle in Bethesda, Maryland.

She was struck on Old Georgetown Road near an entrance ramp to the Capital Beltway. 

Nanak Singh Manku, 83, of McLean, Virginia, had exited I-495 and was trying to re-inter the Inner Loop in a Toyota Camry on Friday, Montgomery County Police say.

The girl was riding her bike in the crosswalk of northbound Old Georgetown Road when Manku struck her, police say.

Police arrived around 5:45 p.m. The girl was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Manku was not injured.

Police have not released the girl's name. The crash is under investigation.
