Chopper4

A tractor-trailer burst into flames early Monday morning in Prince William County.

A man died after his tractor-trailer crashed and caught fire Monday in Prince William County, Virginia, police say.

Christopher B. Byrd, of Lancaster, Texas, was the victim, police said in an update Tuesday. He was 55.

The fire was reported at about 8:50 a.m. on eastbound I-66 near Exit 43, state police said. Troopers found the tractor-trailer engulfed in flames.

Chopper4 footage shows a crew attempting to clear debris and what remained of the vehicle.

Drivers were told to expect extended lane closures and delays.

Byrd’s 2021 Freightliner Cascadia tractor-trailer was headed east when it ran off the right side of the road and hit the jersey wall, police said. The impact caused the huge vehicle to catch fire.
