19-Year-Old Killed in BW Parkway Crash

Two others were seriously hurt in the crash early Monday

One person was killed and two others were seriously injured after a crash on the BW Parkway early Monday morning.

Nineteen-year-old Amayah Charles was pronounced dead after the car she was in collided with another and rolled over. The other occupant was transported to a nearby hospital with serious injury.

The only occupant of the other car involved in the crash was also brought to a hospital with serious injuries.

The crash occurred at about 2:40 a.m. on the northbound section of the parkway near Route 32. Police identified Charles as the victim on Friday.

Charles was a sophomore at Notre Dame of Maryland University studying nursing. She had been active in arts, athletics, social justice and leadership in high school.

"She demonstrated the true spirit of what it meant to be a part of the Notre Dame community," University President Marylou Yam said. "She lit up the room with her bright smile."
