A 14-year-old boy is fighting for his life after he was shot while walking in Southeast D.C. Monday night, police say.
The teen was walking along Stanton Road SE when he was shot multiple times in the upper body.
The shooter ran away. It's unclear if the teen was targeted.
He was conscious and breathing when taken to the hospital, but sources tell News4 his condition deteriorated and he was admitted for surgery.
Police said the teen was at a sports practice earlier Monday, but it's unclear where he was going when he was struck about 8 p.m.
Three hours after the shooting, police continued to collect evidence.
Police ask anyone with information to call it in.
