Woman Sexually Assaulted in Attack Similar to “Georgetown Cuddler”

D.C. police are investigating whether an attack on a woman near the Georgetown University campus this weekend is linked to others in the area over the past two years.

A Sunday morning sexual assault in a Georgetown home shares similarities to the so-called "Georgetown cuddler" sex assaults but hasn't been linked to any of those crimes.

A man broke into a home in the 3800 block of S Street NW near Georgetown University Hospital and sexually assaulted a woman at about 7:30 a.m. Sunday, police said. The woman woke up to the man sexually assaulting him. She screamed, and he fled.

The woman was not a Georgetown University student, according to the school's public safety department, but many students live in the neighborhood.

Thirteen similar incidents have occurred since 2008, but in most of those cases, the culprit has struck when it's dark and entered homes through open windows or doors, NBC4's Pat Collins reported.

Police haven't linked the latest attack to the previous ones but haven't ruled out a link either, officials said.
