First off, let's all agree that it's just not right to watch.
The pandas at the San Diego Zoo are spending a little mommy-daddy time this week. Researchers have closed the panda exhibit so that the female Bai Yun and the male Gao Gao can breed.
After watching the pandas' behavior recently, the staff decided it looked like Bai Yun was getting in the mood. So on Tuesday afternoon, staff removed the barriers that separate the two adults.
And apparently, it didn’t take Gao Gao long to make his move. Yes, we’ve published the video. No, you don’t see any actual panda porn. At least we don’t think so. With all that fur who can really tell?
All kidding aside, this is a really important window for zoo researchers. The organization prides itself on its commitment to protect endangered species and their habitats. When you consider only 6 to 11 baby pandas are born in captivity each year, you realize that a panda baby is a huge cause for celebration.
So far this week, there have been “a few instances of successful breeding” according to the zoo’s press release.
Now, we’ll all just have to wait to see if the timing was right.
