Expect Rain, Rain and More Rain
The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for the Washington area—including Prince William County, Manassas and Manassas Park, starting at 6 a.m. Wednesday. Forecasters say a low pressure system is moving in overnight, bringing with it showers, thunderstorms and heavy rain. It’ll rain all day, they say, with two to three inches expected to fall by evening. A flood watch means the potential for flooding exists if the forecast holds up. Md Boy, 16, Shot Dead in DC
A 16-year-old Prince George's County boy was fatally shot early Wednesday morning in Southeast D.C., police said. Police identified the victim as Anthony Barnes of the 900 block of Nova Avenue in Capitol Heights. Officers were called to the 2500 block of Fairlawn Avenue shortly before 1 a.m. for the report of a shooting, police said. Police found Barnes suffering from gunshot wounds a few blocks away in the 2100 block of Fairlawn. Barnes was taken to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead, according to police. Pepco: "Overall, Restoration Went Well"
Pepco executives are defending the utility company's response to three thunderstorms that knocked out power to hundreds of thousands of customers for as long as five consecutive days. "I'm not too disappointed with how we responded," Pepco Senior Vice President of Operations Michael Sullivan told Maryland's utility watchdog at a hearing Tuesday. (Washington Examiner)
Police: Road Rage Led to Fatal Shooting
A 26-year-old man was arrested and charged Tuesday night with the first-degree murder of a motorist at a Severn traffic light earlier this month. County police said it appears road rage led to the Aug. 6 shooting of 40-year-old Calvin Chi Man Yeung, of Severn, at the intersection of Telegraph Road and Route 100. Detectives served an arrest warrant at James William King's home in the 800 block of Crest Hill Drive in Severn around 10:30 p.m., said Justin Mulcahy, a county police spokesman.
