Jim Handly anchors News4 at 5 and News4 at 11.
Handly joined News4 in 1992 and served as the first anchor for the weekend editions of News4 Today.
Two years later, he was once again tapped to launch a new newscast, News4 at 4:30 (pm), which expanded to an hour shortly thereafter. He anchored that newscast with Pat Lawson Muse for nearly 20 years until his schedule shifted to add News4 at 11 to his duties. Handly has been anchoring News4 at 5 since 2006.
In 2014 NBC sent Handly to Russia to cover the Winter Olympics for the Washington region.
During his time in Washington, Handly has been actively involved in many community organizations including the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, the Washington Tennis and Education Foundation, The Junior Tennis Champions Center in Maryland and Thanks USA, which provides scholarships for families of soldiers. Plus, for 20 plus years he’s been the host of the annual Blue Bird Blues Festival in Prince George’s County.
Prior to moving to Washington, Handly served as an anchor and reporter for the CBS affiliate in Hartford, Conn. While there, he traveled to the Middle East for a series of reports about Operation Desert Storm. Handly began his broadcasting career anchoring and reporting for WPTV, the NBC affiliate in West Palm Beach, Fla.
Off the set, Handly is a competitive tennis player and takes part in a number of charity tennis events. He lives in Washington, DC.
