Four Practical (But Beautiful) Shoes

Betsy Fisher, of the Connecticut Avenue boutique of the same name, knows her D.C. clientele's needs better than some people know their own. She says her average customer "has a serious day job, no time, and is extremely practical," and since that particular woman is no rare species in the District, we're glad she has someone like Fisher on her side. Here she gives us the rundown on four fabulous pairs of all-occasion heels for the working woman.

One best selling shoe is the patent leather AGL heel ($305), the second of a similar AGL style to do well this year. Fisher thinks it's because they "combine a classic aesthetic with total comfort" while still hitting "fashion high notes through color and materials." She added that both styles "have been terrific sellers thanks to design, fit, and quality that make them possible to wear all day."

The Claudia Ciuti heels ($320) are another popular, though slightly showier, shoe. Fisher says they still maintain the "look to comfort ration within an acceptable range," although she warned that they "don't wear well on Georgetown's cobblestones." Regardless, they are indeed "refined, elegant, and neutral, in a style that will look that way for years," and Sales Associate Kimberly Holman added that "the color is a great one to take you from now into early fall."

The Faryl Robin wedges ($205), on the other hand, "represent a less classic aesthetic," but are "just plain fun to wear." And we love what Fisher tells us the designer says: "You can always walk home from a bad date if you're wearing her shoes."

And finally, there's Dana Davis (black heels, $375), who, Fisher says "has taken comfort to a whole new fashion level, or, taken fashion footwear to a whole new comfort level," however you want to put it. In the ultimate intersection of fit and style, Dana Davis heels are manufactured in Italy and "enhance the wearer's well-being by addressing balance, heel position, forefoot angulation, support, and pitch."

With all these comfortable yet chic options, we'll never have to ask a co-worker for band-aids again.
