BURKEVILLE, Va. (AP) — Authorities are investigating after a Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus train hit a tractor-trailer in Nottoway County.
It happened Monday afternoon near Burkeville. No one was hurt.
Local news outlets report that officials say the train collided with the tractor-trailer after the truck became disabled on the tracks.
State police spokesman Sgt. Stephan Vick says the train was hauling circus personnel and equipment. No animals were aboard.
Norfolk Southern spokeswoman Susan Terpay says the driver tried to warn the train’s crew about the disabled tractor-trailer, but the train couldn’t stop in time.
The circus gave its final Richmond performance on Sunday at the Richmond Coliseum. It is scheduled to open Friday in Washington.
