Nationally known venture capitalist and New Enterprise Associates partner Harry Weller died unexpectedly Saturday night at the age of 46.
No cause of death was immediately available, but NEA spokeswoman Kate Barrett told the Wall Street Journal Weller that Weller was not known to be ill.
Weller led the venture capital behemoth’s East Coast practice and had several high-profile exits this year, including the pending $1.65 billion private equity deal for Cvent Inc. (NYSE: CVT) and Oracle’s announced purchase of Opower Inc. for $532 million.
NEA, headquartered locally in Chevy Chase, mourned the loss of Weller, saying in a statement posted on the firm’s website that “we are deeply saddened to share that our partner and greater friend Harry Weller passed away in his sleep” and called him a “renowned technology investor.”
