RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Officials are examining whether the man accused of killing a Virginia State Police special agent was living illegally at the public housing complex where the fatal shooting took place.
Media outlets report that court records list 27-year-old Travis Ball’s home address at the Mosby Court complex, but the Richmond Redevelopment and Housing Authority has said in a statement he isn’t a resident. He was banned from authority property last year.
Authority CEO T.K. Somanath says Ball isn’t on the lease of the unit listed as his residence, but they’re investigating whether he was living there illegally.
Special Agent Michael Walter was slain during a joint operation with city police targeting crime and violence at Mosby Court. Ball faces malicious wounding and firearm charges in connection with the shooting.
