Two months ago, Dinegar’s wife passed away after battling breast cancer. He says he wants to spend more time with his two young children.

“My most important responsibility is to my children. So I will devote more of my time and attention to them until such time that they, and I, are ready for me to return to the workforce full time,” Dinegar said in a statement.

Dinegar will remain president and chief executive until this fall, while the board undertakes a search for his replacement.

“We fully understand and fully support his need to press pause on a successful career to focus on his family at this critical time, and we appreciate his always looking out for the best interests of the organization as well,” Board of Trade chairman Terry McCallister said in a statement.

The Greater Washington Board of Trade focuses on issues of regional transportation, emergency preparedness, regional workforce issues and sustainability.
