Former Redskin Brian Mitchell Nominated for Pro Football Hall of Fame

WASHINGTON — Former Washington Redskins running back Brian Mitchell is among several Redskins players nominated for the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s 2017 class.

The list of nominees was made public Wednesday night and included a total of 94 players. The pool is expected to be narrowed to 15 finalists in January. The inductees will be formally lauded in August 2017, according to the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s website.

In addition to Mitchell, the nominations included former Redskins Joe Jacoby, Jim Lachey and Richie Petitbon.

Two players with brief stints on the Redskins, Donovan McNabb and Jason Taylor, were nominated for the first time this year.

The Hall of Fame selection committee is expected to select the Class of 2017 when it meets in February. Between four and eight members are typically selected.

The full list is available at the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s website.
