STAFFORD, Va. (AP) — Authorities say they found a 5-year-old child with apparent burns on her face locked in a bathroom with lighters, an open Bible and a phone playing “something religious.”
Stafford County deputies said in a statement that 35-year-old parents Carmen Robinson and 41-year-old Norris Robinson are charged with abuse and neglect of children and failure to secure medical attention for an injured child.
Authorities responding to a hotel room Friday for a welfare check discovered the girl clothed in the bathtub with what appeared to be burn marks on her face.
WJLA-TV (http://bit.ly/2eTzWn8) reports Stafford County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman M.C. Morris Moncure says the objects in the bathroom have led investigators to wonder whether the child was being used in a religious ritual.
It’s unclear whether the suspects have attorneys.
