A Duck in Need: DC Fire and EMS Rescues Ducklings From Storm Drain

WASHINGTON — With the mother duck nearby, a D.C. Fire and EMS crew pulled out eight ducklings from a storm drain in Southwest D.C. Monday afternoon.

In a joint effort including D.C. police, animal control and the Water and Sewer Authority, the rescue of the distressed ducklings took place around 12th Street and Maine Avenue Southwest.

There was an initial attempt to remove the drain cover, but in the end, a net was used to pull the ducklings up.

Finally, the ducklings were released, and they waddled quickly back to their mother.
