- Today is baby seal death day. Seal-clubbing season in Canada reaches its height today and a couple hundred thousands seals -- mostly babies -- will be heartlessly killed for their fur. Hunters typically single out seals between 25-days and three-months old and then bludgeon them with a hammer-like tool. The heartbreaking hunt yields just $15 per pelt -- down from $100 in 2006.
- Bob Dylan took a swipe at the Rolling Stones in a recent interview, igniting an old rivalry between the two music legends. "They're pretty much finished, aren't they?" he said. The folk singer said that without bassist Bill Wyman the band is simply "a funk bank."
- Sports drinks will help improve athletes' performance even if the beverage is spat out, a new study shows. Energy beverages work by providing a quick rush of sugar, salts and carbohydrates that the body converts to energy. Receptors in the mouth recognize sugar and send a signals to the brain -- regardless of whether the drink is actually consumed.

The wife of Phil Lesh spotted a vase of Scarlet Begonias on a table outside the Oval Office. Coincidence? We think not.
