NYC mainstay Rich Medina hosts, and locals Cam Jus, DJ Jahsonic, Jerome Baker III compete. Free; 8 p.m.
Gifted Emcees: Talib Kweli, one half of the beloved duo Black Star with Mos Def and a fierce MC in his own right, hits the stage at the Black Cat with fellow conscious rapper Jean Grae. The latter, from New York, is widely considered one of the top female MCs in the game. $20 in advance; $25 at the door. 8 p.m.
Gong Show: One of our favorite ongoing events in town, the HariKaraoke Band Gong Show is live-band karaoke with a healthy dose of wacky. (As the name implies, bad singers get gonged off the stage.) Usually at Wonderland Ballroom, tonight the show moves to Whitlow's on Wilson in Arlington. Free; 9 p.m.
