Two people aboard a small civilian Cessna plane were killed when it collided with an Air Force F-16 fighter jet over South Carolina, the National Transportation Safety Board said Tuesday. The planes collided at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday about 11 miles north of Charleston, South Carolina, the NTSB said in a statement. The F-16 pilot safely ejected and was taken to Joint Base Charleston, where he remains in good condition, the NTSB said. A witness told NBC affiliate WCBD the explosion looked like a "ball of fire in the air." Investigators said there was no reason to believe the people aboard the Cessna survived the crash, and that the search mission had changed from rescue to recovery.
