White House Lockdown Lifted After Unattended Package Found

The White House was placed on lockdown for about an hour and a half Thursday afternoon due to an unattended package, according to a Secret Service official, NBC News reported.

The Secret Service investigated before reopening the White House shortly before 5:30 p.m.

The package was on the north fence line.

Lafayette Park, which is across the street from the White House, was also cleared during the incident.

President Barack Obama was in Delaware on Thursday afternoon for an economic visit, where he also addressed the crash of a Malaysia Airlines jet in Ukraine.
