White House Visitor Center to Reopen After Revamp

The White House Visitor Center is reopening this weekend after extensive renovations over the past two years to create new interactive exhibits, a bookstore and other services.

The National Park Service says the center will open Saturday on Pennsylvania Avenue after $12.6 million in renovations. The overhaul was funded in part by a $7.5 million contribution from the White House Historical Association.

Park officials say it will be a place to learn about the White House with more than 90 artifacts.

On Wednesday, philanthropist David Rubenstein announced a $5 million gift to the White House Historical Association to support the center. The gift funds an endowment for upkeep and ongoing improvements.

Rubenstein previously gave $10 million to create a separate Center for White House History at the Decatur House museum.
