A gunman robbed a man at a church in northwest D.C. over the weekend.
Before 12:30 p.m. Saturday a gunman entered St. Stephen and the Incarnation Episcopal Church in the 1500 block of Newton Street, ran up the steps with gun in hand, demanded money from the 27-year-old victim and ordered the victim to the ground, police said.
The gunman went through the victim’s pockets, taking personal property including cash, a wallet and an iPhone, police said.
The gunman also pointed the handgun at a woman who entered the room, police said.
The gunman then fled. He was described as black, age 18-20, 5-foot-9 to 5-foot-11, with brown eyes. He wore a black mask; a striped, polo-style, short-sleeve shirt; and blue jeans.
Surveillance video shows him entering the church.
St. Stephen’s is known for social activism. The church feeds homeless and hungry every day.
