Two people were killed when their SUV fell from an overpass near National Harbor early Monday morning, Prince George's County Police said.
The victims have been identified as James Monroe Henderson, 45, and Aayoni Williams, 30, both of Alexandria.
Police said a preliminary investigation indicates that Henderson was driving a Chevrolet SUV north on Indian Head Highway when he lost control of the vehicle.
The SUV hit a guardrail and light pole before it overturned and fell to Oxon Hill Road beneath the overpass.
Officers arrived at the scene around 2 a.m. and found Henderson, Williams and a third person inside the SUV. Henderson and Williams were pronounced dead at the scene. The third victim was taken to the hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.
Oxon Hill Road was temporarily closed between National Harbor and the ramp to Indian Head Highway.
Investigators are still working to determine the cause of the accident, but said speed may have been a factor.
