A tractor-trailer carrying tomatoes crashed along Interstate 66 Monday morning, igniting a fire and bringing morning traffic to a saucy halt.
Virginia State Police say the tractor-trailer was traveling eastbound on I-66 when the truck ran off the left side of the road and struck a guardrail. The tractor-trailer traveled along the guardrail for a tenth of a mile before coming to a stop under the Route 15 overpass and catching fire.
The driver, 50-year-old Jose Martinez of Texas, suffered minor injuries. He has been charged with reckless driving.
Police say fatigue was a factor in the crash.
The westbound lanes reopened at about 9 a.m. The eastbound lanes remain closed for cleanup and removal of the charred truck and tomatoes.
