A tractor-trailer caught fire along the Capital Beltway near the exits for U.S. Route 1, creating blocked lanes and traffic problems for drivers who were out early Sunday morning.
Inner loop lanes of I-95/495 were closed shortly after 7 a.m. to allow emergency crews to work on the fire. Exit 25 for U.S. 1 and College Park, Maryland, was also shut down.
Around 8 a.m., traffic on the inner loop was allowed to get by on the far left shoulder. Just before 9 a.m., traffic began using left travel lanes as crews remained near the tractor-trailer.
The exit fully opened before 9 a.m. All travel lanes fully opened around 11:35 a.m.
The cold weather created icy conditions on the roadway from the water used to fight the fire. It is unknown if there were any injuries.
