A 15-year-old Olney teenager is dead and two of his friends are injured following a crash early Saturday morning in Montgomery County.
Police said a car was traveling west on Hines Road when it left the roadway and hit a tree prior to Macduff Avenue. The car then hit a light pole, a telephone box, and rolled before coming to a stop.
The driver and a front-seat passenger were trapped in the vehicle. A rear-seat passenger, identified as Shawn Gangloff, was ejected from the car and hospitalized with life-threatening injuries. Gangloff, who wasn't wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced dead several hours later.
All three teens attended Sherwood High School, and were apparently on their way home from a party when the crash occurred.
"The driver did tell officers that he was coming from a party where alcohol had been served and officers did note an odor of alcohol on him," Cpl. Rebecca Innocenti with Montgomery County Police said. "Blood was taken [at the hospital] that will be tested for alcohol."
The driver was identified as Austin Donovan Hall, age 17, of Brookeville. He was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries.
The front-seat passenger is identified as Maxwell Elliott Dechter, age 17, of Silver Spring. He was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries.
