Southern Virginia County Wants to Shut Down Sex Shop

Shhh ... Intimacy has been ordered to shut down over its sales of sex toys, bondage gear and pornographic DVDs.

A Pittsylvania County store has been ordered to shut down over its sales of sex toys, bondage gear and pornographic DVDs.

The store's co-owner, Trish Post, told the Danville Register & Bee that she will appeal the closure order to the county Board of Zoning Appeals.

County code compliance director Odie Shelton says the county's zoning ordinance allows novelty stores. But stores that sell sex toys and pornography aren't allowed.

Shelton and a code compliance officer inspected the business and saw sex toys and a bed for sexual bondage activity, the Danville Register & Bee reported.

Post says she stopped selling pornographic DVDS at her store, Shhh ... Intimacy, last month after she learned that it could be illegal in the county.

She temporarily shut down the store Thursday after receiving a letter from Shelton, but the county has permitted the store to reopen pending the outcome of her appeal.

Post said she's willing to sell only lingerie and stop selling prohibited items until her year-long lease on the building expires. After that, she might try to relocate the store to Danville, Va.
