A small earthquake was reported Sunday afternoon near the border where Virginia, West Virginia and Maryland meet, the United States Geological Survey earthquake hazards program said.
The USGC indicated the 3.0-magnitude quake was centered in the Loudoun Valley area, just south of Harpers Ferry, West Virginia, shortly after 2 p.m. The epicenter was about 45 miles northwest of Washington, D.C.
One NBC4 viewer in Jefferson County, West Virginia, said the tremors were "extremely quick."
There were no reports of damage.
The USGS seismicity maps for the history of earthquakes in Virginia indicate no tremors in that area since 1973.
