Actor Charlie Sheen has been in trouble with his wives, with his producers and with the courts. Now he may be getting D.C. police in trouble.
His tweet Tuesday night before his DAR Constitution Hall show drew attention to his police escort from Dulles International Airport.
On Hot 99.5’s Kane Show, Kane quoted Sheen’s tweet: “I’m in car with police escort. Driving like someone’s about to deliver a baby. Cop’s light spinning, which is a play on his #winning.”
Sheen included a picture of a speedometer inside an SUV that appears to be traveling at 80 mph behind a police car with flashing lights.
Sheen arrived at DAR about an hour late for his show. When he got on stage, he mentioned his wild ride over from the airport.
“He entered the stage and he said something like, ‘Oh my gosh, we just got here going a hundred-miles-an-hour with a police escort,’” said Samy K, of the Kane Show. “And everyone started cheering and going crazy for him like you would at a Charlie Sheen show.”
“This escort was handled as a reimbursable detail,” read a statement from the Metropolitan Police Department. “This means that the government was reimbursed for the services provided. This entire matter is under investigation.
D.C. Council member Phil Mendelson -- chairman of the judiciary committee, which oversees public safety – met with Police Chief Cathy Lanier Thursday.
“The chief was very concerned about this,” Mendelson said. “She did not seem to be welcoming of the attention brought by what appears to have been unauthorized activity.”
The investigation also is focusing on whether the police escort was speeding, which would be a violation of department policy.
