D.C. police launched a search for at least one arsonist following two nighttime fires The Washington Post reported Tuesday, one of which temporarily forced more than a dozen residents out of their homes.
The first fire was set Monday night in the Shaw neighborhood, according to a police spokesperson quoted in the Post. A man was reportedly seen setting cardboard boxes on fire inside a portable toilet near a construction site on T Street NW.
A second fire was reportedly set around 1 a.m. Tuesday morning in the basement of an apartment building on Oglethorpe Street NW in the Brightwood area. Police told the Post that blaze cut power to 18 residents in the building overnight.
